My experience on the course
I’d expected a greater focus on trainer’s skills and techniques for delivering courses but as I professionally train and deliver courses now this was not actually top of my personal agenda, just an expectation. The course was without doubt a great experience. It sometimes pushed some boundaries and gave a secure and safe environment to experiment. I felt I was where I wanted to be.
My learnings on the course
Although I didn’t know it until the end of the course the number one learning was about really being myself and giving of myself as a trainer according to the requirements of the moment. Of course at a logical level I already knew this but not in a way that had it internalised to be a natural part of me. I believe I absorbed this through the experience of all that we shared and did. I also believe it could not have been taught using a traditional classroom type approach... it needed to be discovered by experience. In addition I learnt a lot about group dynamics and using the energies of the group as and when required. I learned to trust myself to experiment and be relaxed about working with what was available in the room. I didn’t know I learned these things until I read the “criteria for trainers” which you gave us at the end of the course. Reading the criteria had everything fall into place. Also I learned a lot about the others on the course and the sharing of time and experiences with them in a small group environment was very positive. I ended up feeling very close and respectful of everyone.
